The journey from a simple idea to an AI platform that's changing the approach to digital marketing. A story about how problems in tourism and banking led to creating a universal solution for precise targeting.
It all started in the pre-COVID era when I worked on a project for a large travel agency. One thought haunted me every day: "Why are we showing ads for hot deals to Thailand to people who just need a visa to Poland?"
For advertising systems, these were just people interested in "travel". But for business — these were completely different clients with different needs. We were wasting budget showing the wrong things to the wrong people.
That's when the idea was born: create a service that would bring the most accurate audience, perfectly matching buyers' interests for travel agencies.
I assembled a small team of enthusiasts. We met, discussed the future project — back then we saw it as a narrow specialized tool for tourism. It seemed simple enough.
And then 2020 happened. Borders closed, tourism froze, and the world put our idea on pause.
Our team's paths diverged. I went to work at a bank. Anton, my future partner, first worked outsourcing with the USA, then moved to Georgia to join EPAM.
It was at the bank that I experienced déjà vu. I saw the same problem, but on a different scale. Advertising budgets were going to waste because for ad systems, a person interested in deposits and a person looking for a loan were the same user from the "finance" category.
But in reality — these were people with absolutely opposite financial goals!
The idea flared up with new force, but in a different quality. This shouldn't just be a service for tourism. It should be a universal platform that can filter audiences by real, deep interests.
Working in corporations, we both gained new skills and knowledge. I studied customer behavior in banking, Anton built complex systems for enterprise clients. Gradually, a clear product vision was forming.
One evening we called each other and realized: enough working on others' dreams, time to build our own. We both saw the same market "pain". We both had accumulated knowledge and a huge desire to create a product.
That's how ClikBy was born. It embodies the vision we put into it today: not just observe traffic, but understand it.
